Best Time to Visit Tamraght for the Most Memorable Trip

Last Updated on 21st January 2026 by Jessie

A breakdown of the ideal travel seasons in Tamraght: a conclusive guide for surfers and land-dwellers alike.

So, you’re wondering what the best time of the year to embark on your Tamraght vacation is? In short, the winter months are best if you’re coming to Morocco in search of world-class waves. Whereas, if you’re a beginner, then the gentler summer and shoulder season swells offer much friendlier conditions for learning to surf.

With that said, Tamraght has far more to offer than surf, and I suspect not everyone’s travel plans will be dictated by Huey. So below is my run-down of the seasons in Tamraght, to help you decide when is the best time to visit Tamraght for yourself.

  1. First and foremost, get travel insurance with SafetyWing. They’re super affordable and one of the few companies that let you buy insurance mid-trip.
  2. Book the dreamiest Moroccan abode on Booking.com. They’re my go-to for accomodation because you can save loooaads with their loyalty discounts.
  3. Or if you’re after the one-stop-shop, BookSurfCamps is the best place to find surf camp packages in Morocco.
  4. Find the best local tours with GetYourGuide. It’s the easiest way to visit places like Paradise Valley or Timlalin Dunes.
  5. Make sure you’re connected as soon as you get off the plane with Airalo’s Moroccan eSIM.
  6. Set up a Wise travel card to save on international transaction fees.
  7. And if you’re working online (or want to watch Netflix in your downtime) I highly recommend getting set up with a SurfShark VPN.

And you’re sorted.

Visiting Tamraght in Summer

Best time to visit Tamraght for consistent beach weather

Summer in Tamraght is peak-tourist season for domestic travel. It’s the time of the year when Moroccan families from the cities flock to the village for their seaside vacations. The beaches are busiest during the summer. This doesn’t mean that you should avoid Tamraght in the summer – just be aware that you will be privy to a different kind of energy.

Coming from Western Australia, where one is spoilt for choice when it comes to pristine, empty beaches, the first time I travelled to Europe, I was thrown by how densely populated the beaches were. Packed in like sardines, towels touching, almost grazing elbows with my neighbour. I found it bizarre.

But since then, I’ve grown kind of fond of the communal beach day. There’s something about a day at the beach that brings out the little child in everyone. Unbridled joy at the wholesomeness of it.

Moroccans know how to do beach days well. Their picnics are unparalleled. In the mornings, families carry their umbrellas, chairs, coolers, and camper stoves down to the sand and claim their spot. They slow-cook tagines, pour mint tea from a furnace, share pastries and cakes, and splash in the shallows. Multiple generations sharing in the novelty of a day in the sun and in the sea. It’s a delight to witness.

The water is warmer, the days are consistently hot, and the place is vibrant. If that’s your formula for an ideal vacation, then summer is the best time to visit Tamraght for you. And don’t worry, the beaches in Tamraght are super long. No touching elbows.

Visiting Tamraght in Autumn

Best time to visit Tamraght for beginner surfers

Tamraght and the surrounding coastline have an abundance of surf breaks, providing waves for surfers of every level. But even so, when the swell is pumping (in winter, for instance) the playing field for beginners becomes a lot more limited.

Lessons for beginners will be confined to the knee-deep waters of the shore. Which is still perfect for learning the basics. But if you’re committing to a two-week stay at a surf camp in the hope of honing your new skill, then ideally you want surf conditions that allow for progression.

This is why the shoulder seasons (autumn and spring) are the best time to visit Tamraght for beginner surfers. The swell tends to be smaller and gentler. This means you can learn the fundamentals of paddling and popping up in the forgiving whitewash waves; build your confidence around surfers of the same level; and maybe even make your way out to the line-up to catch your first green waves.

The perfect recipe for leaving Morocco with a newfound love of both the sport and the country, and a promise to return to Tamraght next season.

Visiting Tamraght in Winter

Best time to visit Tamraght for advanced surfers

Winter in Tamraght is popular for two reasons. Firstly, the waves are on. The North Atlantic swells pick up, and surfers from all over the world head down to the little red dirt paradise.

The surf season in Tamraght generously extends from October to April. However, if you’re an advanced surfer, then winter is your best opportunity for getting waves. Breaks like the notorious Anchor Point (10km north of Tamraght) work best in winter. With twenty different surf spots within an hour’s drive of Tamraght, there’s a good chance you’ll find a wave in winter, no matter the swell.

Secondly, the mild temperatures in Tamraght offer the perfect reprieve from the harsher winter climates in Europe. This inspires many northern neighbours to seek sunny solace down in Morocco.

Throughout my whole winter in Tamraght this year, there were probably only a handful of days I didn’t make it into the ocean. The waters are much cleaner this time of year. Rainy days are rare. Expect warm sunshiney days and slightly chilly evenings. Arguably, the ideal winter. If you’re cold-blooded like me, winter might be the best time to visit Tamraght for you.

Visiting Tamraght in Spring

From March onwards, the surf crowds tend to thin out. Those who were seeking refuge in Tamraght over the winter migrate onwards and leave their long-term rentals. This means the apartment prices drop, and with less competition, it’s your best chance of scoring a good deal.

Spring is also a great time of the year to delve into all the other adventures that Tamraght has to offer. After a little rainfall over winter, spring is the best time to visit Paradise Valley. The waterfalls are more likely to be flowing, and the plants are blooming. It’s also not yet super hot, so the short hike down to the valley is more enjoyable.

With fewer crowds, spring is also a great time to visit the souks, learn to skate, or go sandboarding. The weather’s getting warmer, the days are getting longer, and there are infinite opportunities to catch a magical Moroccan sunset.

Best time to visit Tamraght for Ramadan

Note that spring is also the time in which Moroccans celebrate the holy month of Ramadan.

The exact dates of Ramadan change every year, so this won’t hold true for years to come. As the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle, the commencement of Ramadan shifts backward by about 10 days each year. In 2026, Ramadan is expected to begin on February 16th, but it will depend on the first sighting of the crescent moon.

What to expect during Ramadan

Ramadan is one of the most sacred times for Muslims.  During this month, healthy adults are expected to fast every day from sunrise ‘til sunset. This means abstinence from food, drink (including water), smoking, and sex, as well as negative thoughts and emotions – like jealousy and anger.

So, what does this mean for travellers visiting Tamraght during the month of Ramadan? The first thing to be aware of is that most cafes and restaurants will be closed during the day. Supermarkets and corner stores will usually open in the afternoon and stay open until late into the evening.

Whilst as a foreigner, you’re not expected to fast during Ramadan, it is advised to avoid eating and drinking in public throughout the day, out of respect to the culture and religion.

In the evenings, the energy changes, and the mood becomes one of celebration as friends and families gather to break their fasts together. This meal is known as ‘iftar’, a light snack before a bigger meal later in the evening. If you’re lucky, locals may invite you in to join in the feasting.

All in all, no matter which time of the year you choose to visit Tamraght – you’re going to have a good time.

With that sorted, read my post on how to get to Tamraght, and get planning.

Happy travels.
