Moroccan Travel Essentials
- First and foremost, get travel insurance with SafetyWing. They’re super affordable and one of the few companies that let you buy insurance mid-trip.
- Book the dreamiest Moroccan abode on Booking.com. They’re my go-to for accomodation because you can save loooaads with their loyalty discounts.
- Or if you’re after the one-stop-shop, BookSurfCamps is the best place to find surf camp packages in Morocco.
- Find the best local tours with GetYourGuide. It’s the easiest way to visit places like Paradise Valley or Timlalin Dunes.
- Make sure you’re connected as soon as you get off the plane with Airalo’s Moroccan eSIM.
- Set up a Wise travel card to save on international transaction fees.
- And if you’re working online (or want to watch Netflix in your downtime) I highly recommend getting set up with a SurfShark VPN.
And you’re sorted.

Where to Buy a SIM Card in Morocco
Airports & Ferry Terminals
Most airports will have kiosks for each of the three main phone providers. Often, there will be staff (enthusiastically) handing out free SIM cards. This is totally legit; however, you still have to pay for your data package of choice. The options available tend to be more expensive than those in other stores.
Nonetheless, I usually bite the bullet and get a SIM card at the airport. They set it up for me on the spot, so I’m connected as soon as I arrive in the country. And it saves me the hassle of hunting down the nearest phone store when I get to the village.
If flying into Agadir airport, check out this guide, which covers SIM cards and more.
You can also purchase SIM cards on arrival at the Tangier ferry terminal.
Official Phone Provider Stores
You can find official Maroc Telecom, Orange and INWI stores in all of the cities and bigger towns. Even Tamraght has a Maroc Telecom store on the main road. You will find the best deals on data pricing at these stores.
These are also the best spots for in-person customer support. Often the staff speak good English, so they can explain all of the options to you and set up your SIM card in store.
TIP: Often, you will need to show your passport when purchasing a SIM card in Morocco. So make sure you have it handy.
Mini Markets/Convenience Stores
Local mini markets, electronics shops and convenience stores also sell prepaid SIM cards in Morocco. Usually, they cost 20dh or 30dh for the card itself, and you will pay the standard rate for data/recharging. However, they may not always be able to set the SIM up for you.
How to Recharge SIM Cards in Morocco
As with SIM cards, you can purchase data top-ups from mini markets, electronics stores or official phone provider stores. All three providers also allow you to create an account and recharge online. However, all of the websites are in French and sometimes a bit clunky.

eSIM Options for Morocco
Alternatively, you can skip the hassle of a physical SIM card altogether and purchase an eSIM instead. If I’m only going for a shorter trip, I usually opt for an Airalo eSIM.
Personally, I love the convenience of being connected as soon as I get off the plane. And not having to tack on an extra half hour in the airport faffing around with SIM cards. Plus, keeping track of multiple SIM cards is one more mental battle that I’d rather avoid.
Best eSIM for Morocco
Airalo is my choice for eSIMs in Morocco because they use the Maroc Telecom network. I tend to stick to the surf villages, and Maroc Telecom provides the best coverage. Whereas, Holalfy eSIMs use Orange Morocco’s network.

Airalo eSIM Data Pricing
| PLAN | PRICE (USD) | DATA | VALIDITY |
| Basic | $9.50 | 1GB | 7 days |
| Standard | $24 | 3GB | 15 days |
| Premium | @39 | 5GB | 30 days |
