Cooking Classes in Tamraght and Taghazout

Last Updated on 3rd January 2026 by Jessie

A list of traditional Moroccan cooking classes on offer in Tamraght and Taghazout. Hosted by local women and worth every penny.

If you want to learn traditional Moroccan recipes, forget the cookbooks and go straight to the source. There are a number of great cooking classes on offer in Tamraght and Taghazout. All hosted by Moroccan women, passing on their own family recipes.

I’ve found Moroccans to be incredibly generous in the sharing of cultural wisdom and practices. Whether it’s teaching Darija, reciting a bit of Amazigh history or sharing traditional recipes, they’re usually stoked that you’re paying a little interest. It’s not uncommon to be invited in for a home-cooked tagine – demonstration included. But if you’re not so lucky, these cooking workshops are the next best thing.

I’ve not attended any of these cooking classes, so I can’t share my recommendations. However, I would more than happily book any of the workshops mentioned in this list.

The quintessential Moroccan dish.
  1. First and foremost, get travel insurance with SafetyWing. They’re super affordable and one of the few companies that let you buy insurance mid-trip.
  2. Book the dreamiest Moroccan abode on Booking.com. They’re my go-to for accomodation because you can save loooaads with their loyalty discounts.
  3. Or if you’re after the one-stop-shop, BookSurfCamps is the best place to find surf camp packages in Morocco.
  4. Find the best local tours with GetYourGuide. It’s the easiest way to visit places like Paradise Valley or Timlalin Dunes.
  5. Make sure you’re connected as soon as you get off the plane with Airalo’s Moroccan eSIM.
  6. Set up a Wise travel card to save on international transaction fees.
  7. And if you’re working online (or want to watch Netflix in your downtime) I highly recommend getting set up with a SurfShark VPN.

And you’re sorted.

Ilham is the lovely owner of Kisslaz restaurant (one of my top recs for Food in Tamraght). She runs cooking workshops every Tuesday at 4pm, to coincide with the weekly Tamraght Souk. She takes you for a tour of the souk to purchase fresh groceries, then you’ll prepare a traditional Moroccan dish together – often tagines or briouat (a stuffed pastry). Ilham also runs Darija language classes at Kasbari House

She also has an eBook available for purchase, sharing all of her authentic Moroccan recipes.

Cooking Class with Rabab

This one’s a little pricier than the rest, but from the reviews, it sounds like it’s well worth your money. Rabab takes you to a nearby Berber village where you’re shown how to bake fresh bread in a traditional clay oven. You then prepare a few different tagines and Moroccan salad as a group. Followed by a communal feast in which Rabab imparts stories of her family’s life in the mountains. Transport from Taghazout is included.

Price: €55
Location: Near Taghazout
