How to Get to Sidi Kaouki, Morocco

Last Updated on 25th January 2026 by Jessie

Travelling to Sidi Kaouki? Here is a comprehensive guide to getting to Sidi Kaouki from anywhere in Morocco with all public transport options.

Sidi Kaouki is an oft-overlooked stop on the Moroccan surf village circuit. Which is odd, because it sits just 22km south of Essaouira, making it one of the most easily accessible.

In this guide, I’ll explain how to reach Sidi Kaouki from the main entry points of Essaouira, Marrakech and Agadir. As well as the smaller surf villages of Imsouane, Taghazout and Tamraght – for those on a surfing sojourn.

  1. First and foremost, get travel insurance with SafetyWing. They’re super affordable and one of the few companies that let you buy insurance mid-trip.
  2. Book the dreamiest Moroccan abode on Booking.com. They’re my go-to for accomodation because you can save loooaads with their loyalty discounts.
  3. Or if you’re after the one-stop-shop, BookSurfCamps is the best place to find surf camp packages in Morocco.
  4. Find the best local tours with GetYourGuide. It’s the easiest way to visit places like Paradise Valley or Timlalin Dunes.
  5. Make sure you’re connected as soon as you get off the plane with Airalo’s Moroccan eSIM.
  6. Set up a Wise travel card to save on international transaction fees.
  7. And if you’re working online (or want to watch Netflix in your downtime) I highly recommend getting set up with a SurfShark VPN.

And you’re sorted.

Renting a Car on Morocco’s Surf Coast

The most straightforward way to navigate Morocco’s surf coast is to rent a car. Beyond Marrakech and other urban areas, the traffic is relatively mellow. So if you’re a competent driver, you’ll be sweet. Check out DiscoverCars to get a quote and book a car in advance.

It is not always necessary to hold an International Driver’s Permit to rent a car in Morocco; however, it is advised. Traffic stops and licence checks are common in Morocco, and so it helps to minimise any trouble with the police.

Travel insurance, on the other hand, is absolutely mandatory. I advise purchasing additional coverage from the rental company for any vehicle damage. And for medical coverage, SafetyWing is my go-to.

Travelling Morocco’s Coast Without a Car

For those lacking the budget or the automobile confidence to rent a car, don’t fret. Morocco’s surf coast is just as easy to traverse with public transport.

I’m a self-confessed shit driver, and thus I regularly utilise a combination of public buses, taxis and shuttle buses to travel between the surf villages.

Below are all the transport options for getting to Sidi Kaouki without a car.

How to Get to Sidi Kaouki from Essaouira

The closest airport to Sidi Kaouki is Essaouira-Mogador. However, flights into Essaouira are often more expensive than those to Marrakech or Agadir – so consider this when planning your Moroccan itinerary.

Taxi from Essaouira to Sidi Kaouki

Private Taxi

If you’re travelling with a group, I recommend getting a private taxi from Essaouira to Sidi Kaouki. Head to ‘Station de Grand Taxis’ on Google Maps and ask a driver.

It should cost around 100dh for the whole car, or 15dh each for 6 people. You shouldn’t pay more than 150dh.

The drive takes 25 minutes.

Collective Taxi

In theory, you should be able to catch a collective taxi from Essaouira to Sidi Kaouki. This means paying 15dh for your seat and waiting for the car to fill up with other passengers.

However, when I asked at both taxi stations in Essaouira, I was told no. The drivers preferred to take private trips only. Still worth enquiring though!

Bus from Essaouira to Sidi Kaouki

Neither of the major bus companies in Morocco (CTM and Supratours) offers routes between Essaouira and Sidi Kaouki.

Instead, you must catch the local bus ‘Lima’ – Line 2. You can check the timetable online; however, tickets must be purchased in person from the driver. Tickets cost 8dh.

The bus departs from Bab Doukkala 7 times a day. The trip takes around an hour as it stops at Essaouira Airport.

18301930

However, be aware that the local bus lines often run late (up to half an hour or so).

If travelling from Essaouira to Sidi Kaouki, it’s best to aim for an early bus as this route fills up quickly with locals. If travelling in the other direction, you don’t need to worry.

How to Get to Sidi Kaouki From Marrakech

Sidi Kaouki is 200km west of Marrakech. It takes around 3 hours to reach by car.

There is no direct bus route between Marrakech and Sidi Kaouki. You must go via Essaouira unless taking a private taxi. A private grand taxi may cost around 800-1000dh (€80-€100).

CTM and Supratours have several buses travelling between Marrakech and Essaouira each day. Check out the full bus timetables, pricing and taxi options

Once there, take a taxi or local bus from Essaouira to Sidi Kaouki.

How to Get to Sidi Kaouki from Agadir

Sidi Kaouki is 105km north of Agadir. It takes about 3 hours by car. A private taxi should cost between 300-600dh (€30-€60).

Again, there is no direct bus route from Agadir to Sidi Kaouki. You can catch a CTM or Supratours bus from Agadir to Essaouira, then catch a taxi or local bus to Sidi Kaouki.

Shuttle Bus from Agadir to Sidi Kaouki

Whenever the route allows it, I opt to take the Souk to Surf shuttle bus. It’s super affordable and reliable.

Souk to Surf doesn’t travel directly to Sidi Kaouki. However, you can book a ride from Agadir to Ghazou (Le Rendez Vous Café), then take a local taxi from Ghazou to Sidi Kaouki.

Ghazoua is a small village 12km northeast of Sidi Kaouki. A taxi ride should take 15 minutes and cost around 60dh for the whole car. You should pay no more than 100dh.

How to Get to Sidi Kaouki from Imsouane

Sidi Kaouki is 82km north of Imsouane. It takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes by car.

There is no bus line connecting Imsouane and Sidi Kaouki.

The best option is to get the Souk to Surf shuttle from Imsouane to Ghazoua, then catch a local taxi to Sidi Kaouki.

How to Get to Sidi Kaouki from Tamraght or Taghazout

Sidi Kaouki is 100km north of Tamraght/Taghazout and takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes to reach by car.

There is no bus line connecting Tamraght or Taghazout to Sidi Kaouki. You could catch a CTM or Supratours bus to Essaouira, then backtrack via taxi or local bus to Sidi Kaouki.

Alternatively, you can take the Souk to Surf shuttle from Tamraght or Taghazout to Ghazoua and then take a local taxi to Sidi Kaouki, as above. I would recommend this as the most straightforward approach.
