SIM Cards in Tamraght: Your How-To Guide

Last Updated on 4th July 2025 by Jessie

There are a few different options for purchasing SIM cards in Tamraght and they’re all super simple. Nonetheless, I’m going to walk you through them all step-by-step. Yallah.

  1. First and foremost, get travel insurance with SafetyWing. They’re super affordable and one of the few companies that let you buy insurance mid-trip.
  2. Book the dreamiest Moroccan abode on Booking.com. They’re my go-to for accomodation because you can save loooaads with their loyalty discounts.
  3. Or if you’re after the one-stop-shop, BookSurfCamps is the best place to find surf camp packages in Morocco.
  4. Find the best local tours with GetYourGuide. It’s the easiest way to visit places like Paradise Valley or Timlalin Dunes.
  5. Make sure you’re connected as soon as you get off the plane with Airalo’s Moroccan eSIM.
  6. Set up a Wise travel card to save on international transaction fees.
  7. And if you’re working online (or want to watch Netflix in your downtime) I highly recommend getting set up with a SurfShark VPN.

And you’re sorted.

Moroccan Mobile Networks

There are three mobile network providers in Morocco. All of which offer prepaid SIM cards for travellers. They all provide decent coverage; but as the oldest and the biggest network, Maroc Telecom is the pick of the bunch with the best coverage for rural areas.

  • Maroc Telecom (Otherwise known as IAM)
  • Orange Maroc
  • INWI

Buying SIM Cards at the Airport

All international airports in Morocco will have kiosks selling SIM cards. Plus, most airports in Morocco will also have people handing out free SIM cards on arrival. These are legit, it’s not a scam.

If you buy a SIM card from a kiosk, it will cost between 20dh and 30dh (€2 or €3). You will usually have to show your passport.

Buying a SIM card directly from a mobile provider store or kiosk can save you some hassle. They can set it up there for you on the spot and load a data package of your choice. This is super helpful when the activation and confirmation messages are in Arabic.

Buying SIM Cards in Tamraght

If you miss your chance at the airport, buying SIM cards in Tamraght is just as easy. You can purchase a SIM card at one of the local mini markets, electronics stores or at the Maroc Telecom shop on the main road.

Buying Data Packages in Tamraght

As with SIM cards, you can purchase data top-ups at some mini markets and at electronics stores. If your network provider allows it you can also create an account and buy data online.

Data Prices in Morocco

All Moroccan mobile providers follow a standard pricing system for internet data; 10dh (€1) for 1GB.

The expiration times for the data will vary depending on the package you choose.

Electronic SIM CARDS in Tamraght

It would be remiss of me to speak about SIM cards in Tamraght without mentioning my preferred option: eSIM cards.

For those of you who haven’t heard of an eSIM before, it’s an electronic SIM card that is installed directly onto your device – without a physical card. You can purchase them online or through an app.

I opt to use eSIM cards when travelling for two reasons:

Firstly, it’s so much easier when everything can be done online.
I like that I can install the eSIM prior to arriving in a country, activate it using the airport Wi-Fi and I’m good to go straight out of the gate.

And secondly, keeping track of multiple physical SIM cards feels too risky for me.
Minimise your stuff, always.

When using an eSIM I also found that I could keep my Australian SIM card in my phone and continue to receive messages through it. This is super helpful for any verification codes that are sent via message and linked to a specific phone number. Like when banking, or booking things, etc.

Airalo eSIM CARDS

This is the eSIM that I’ve found to be the best for Morocco.

Airalo is the eSIM provider that I use. The Airalo data packages for Morocco are a little pricier; but I found it to be simple to install, and reliable.

You can check out Airalo’s data packages for Morocco here.

You can also find really good deals on Airalo data packages for other countries. I used Airalo a lot whilst travelling Europe. You can purchase one eSIM card that provides coverage for most of the European countries. Sorted.

Note that not all phones are compatible with eSIM cards. So, check that yours is first before purchasing.
