Best Digital Nomad Destinations on Morocco’s Surf Coast

Last Updated on 28th July 2025 by Jessie

Remote-work meets surf life: Whether you’re chasing waves or coworking, our guide shows the best spots along Morocco’s Atlantic coast where nomads can live, work, and surf with ease.

There are plenty of epic surf villages on Morocco’s coastline to park up with your lappy for a few months or so. Particularly if you’re not chasing the quintessential digital nomad community, and simply require cheap digs, fast Wi-Fi and consistent waves. But for those who prefer a gang of like-minded, similar-industry pals to bounce ideas off and surround themselves with, here are my top picks for digital nomad destinations on Morocco’s surf coast.

  1. First and foremost, get travel insurance with SafetyWing. They’re super affordable and one of the few companies that let you buy insurance mid-trip.
  2. Book the dreamiest Moroccan abode on Booking.com. They’re my go-to for accomodation because you can save loooaads with their loyalty discounts.
  3. Or if you’re after the one-stop-shop, BookSurfCamps is the best place to find surf camp packages in Morocco.
  4. Find the best local tours with GetYourGuide. It’s the easiest way to visit places like Paradise Valley or Timlalin Dunes.
  5. Make sure you’re connected as soon as you get off the plane with Airalo’s Moroccan eSIM.
  6. Set up a Wise travel card to save on international transaction fees.
  7. And if you’re working online (or want to watch Netflix in your downtime) I highly recommend getting set up with a SurfShark VPN.

And you’re sorted.

Why Morocco is the Perfect Digital Nomad Destination

If you’ve got the luxury of a remote job that allows you autonomy over your work schedule, your days are likely going to be pretty fluid. Slow mornings, a few hours work here, a midday surf, and a few more hours tapping away there. This is pretty similar to the coastal Moroccan way of living.

Whilst Moroccans are hard workers, they don’t tend to rush things. They are incredibly present, prioritising an hour sharing a pot of mint tea with friends, before getting on with the other duties of the day.

That’s what makes Morocco a great digital nomad destination. Particularly the coastal villages. When you’re there, it feels like you’re given permission to slow down, to design your days exactly as you desire. Rather than living in a fast-paced atmosphere where you’re made to feel like you’re piss-farting your time away if you’re not constantly hustling.

Essaouira

Essaouira (formerly known as Mogador) is a charming port city that offers a unique blend of history, culture, and coastal beauty. Its laid-back atmosphere and artistic vibe make it a favourite among creatives and remote workers alike.

For those who like to base themselves in a place with all the bells and whistles. I.e. loads of great bars, specialty coffee shops, and a bustling entrepreneurial atmosphere, Essaouira is your go-to digital nomad destination in Morocco.

I’m not much of a city-dweller myself, but Essaouira is by far my favourite Moroccan city. For decades, it’s been a melting pot of artists and musicians, and the quirky, bohemian feel remains. The coastal location keeps the vibe mellow, and the shopping here is unsurpassed.

  • Peruse the art galleries.
  • Go kitesurfing/windsurfing.

Taghazout

Taghazout is Morocco’s surf capital. It’s a tiny coastal village with a bustling surf hippie atmosphere that is slowly but surely evolving into a luxe-nomad hotspot. Most of the bars and restaurants are concentrated to one main street that runs parallel to the beach. So it’s a good spot for meeting like-minded travellers.

If you’re keen to spend the majority of your downtime getting waves, then Taghazout is the best digital nomad destination in Morocco to do so. There is an abundance of surf breaks along this stretch of coastline, at least three of which are within walking distance of the town. Taghazout has loads of surf camps and board rental stores, so whatever your surf competency, the place has you sorted.

Tamraght

Tamraght is the up-and-comer digital nomad destination on Morocco’s surf coast. In earlier years, it was known as the quieter, off-the-beaten-path alternative to Taghazout. But these days it’s buzzing with surf camps, trendy cafes and yoga studios.

The village of Tamraght is quite spread out and still retains somewhat of an authentic rural community feel. It tends to be the preferred choice for expats wanting to stay in Morocco long-term.

Tamraght is just a ten-minute drive south of Taghazout, so it’s an equally apt digital nomad destination for surfers. But it has more of a low-key, slightly less mainstream atmosphere than its popular counterpart. A definite drawcard for some.

Note that there are no bars in Tamraght. See how to get to Taghazout from Tamraght.
