Creative Activities in Tamraght (Beyond Surfing)

Last Updated on 12th January 2026 by Jessie

A list of all the extracurricular activities on offer in Tamraght: arts, crafts and creative workshops to occupy your mind and body beyond the surf.

Just two years ago, Tamraght was a sleepy little surf town. As a visitor, your days were filled with hours at the beach, hikes up the mountain to watch the sunset, and late-night tagines with newfound friends. Maybe a yoga class or two thrown in if you were feeling exotic.

I loved the lack of stimulation. Boredom is the bedrock of creativity after all. And the prerequisite for spontaneity. Alas, these days, you can partake in just about any activity your heart desires. Tamraght is now a melting pot of expats and long-term visitors. Each flexing their entrepreneurial spirit with their own class, retreat or workshop. I have mixed feelings about this, but I expect they’re not shared with the collective.

So, for those who are looking to get a little more out of their Moroccan coastal sojourn – to learn a new skill or two, or meet some like-minded kin, here are a bunch of lesser common things to do in Tamraght.

See Tamraght Travel Guide

  1. First and foremost, get travel insurance with SafetyWing. They’re super affordable and one of the few companies that let you buy insurance mid-trip.
  2. Book the dreamiest Moroccan abode on Booking.com. They’re my go-to for accomodation because you can save loooaads with their loyalty discounts.
  3. Or if you’re after the one-stop-shop, BookSurfCamps is the best place to find surf camp packages in Morocco.
  4. Find the best local tours with GetYourGuide. It’s the easiest way to visit places like Paradise Valley or Timlalin Dunes.
  5. Make sure you’re connected as soon as you get off the plane with Airalo’s Moroccan eSIM.
  6. Set up a Wise travel card to save on international transaction fees.
  7. And if you’re working online (or want to watch Netflix in your downtime) I highly recommend getting set up with a SurfShark VPN.

And you’re sorted.

Pottery Classes

In Aourir, 1020° Ceramics runs regular wheel-throwing pottery workshops. These are held twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2.30pm and are suitable for beginners. Classes are 2.5 hours and cost 350dh (€35). You have the option of firing your finished piece in the kiln to take home.

Jewellery Making

Morocco is a treasure trove for vintage and contemporary jewellery finds. But if you want to have a crack at making some yourself, Brookolie Jewelry runs regular jewellery-making workshops. Classes can be tailored to your skill level, ranging from wire work for beginners, to embossed sterling silver rings and cuff bracelets, and soldering work for those a little more daring.

Workshops are 300dh (€30) per person, and you get to take home up to 3 finished pieces. See @brookolie_jewelry on Instagram for bookings.

Cooking Classes

There are loads of incredible women offering traditional Moroccan cooking classes in Tamraght. These are usually group-style workshops in which you learn to cook one main dish, such as tagine, rfissa or couscous and then share the feast with your comrades.

I’ve compiled a list of all the Cooking Classes Available in Tamraght and Taghazout. Check it out for booking details.

Mandala Workshops

Soufian is a local guy living between Tamraght and Essaouira. He is professionally trained in fine arts and art therapy modalities and runs ad-hoc mandala workshops that promote relaxation, self-expression and inner balance. The kind of meditative introspection that’s too often lacking in this go-getter world.

He’s a jack of all artistic trades, working as a highly-skilled freelance photographer and producing his own jewellery.

Leatherworks

Golden Cuir is the go-to shop in Tamraght for all things leather. You can watch the craftsmen at work creating bags, shoes and belts. They’ll happily create custom orders on demand. And they also run leather-making workshops on request.

Pop-Up Events

Beyond this list of creatives, there are a few cafes that often host ad-hoc creative events and workshops.

Hey Yallah

One of Tamraght’s OG coffee shops, Hey Yallah, is also a mainstay of the nomad community.  On Sundays, they host the CoolShe markets, showcasing the work of local and expat female creators.

Above the cafe, you’ll find Studiio HY – their dedicated studio space in which they run loads of different curated events. These include wellness pursuits like yin yoga, gua sha demonstrations, and dance classes. As well as creative skills like incense making, Moroccan calligraphy and DJ workshops for beginners.

Check @hey.yallah on Instagram for their upcoming schedule.

Acro Yoga

If you’ve rinsed the traditional Yoga Studios in Tamraght and want to spice it up a bit, there’s a guy running Acro Yoga workshops on the beach. They are typically held each Sunday at Devil’s Rock. It’s 150dh (€15) per person, and no prior experience is needed.

See @moracro on Instagram for bookings.

Dancing

Afro Latin Dance Academy is based in Agadir, but they run regular dance workshops in Tamraght and Anza. Alternating between Salsa, Bachata, Afro and Kizomba – beginners and those who are a little more rhythmically gifted are welcome. They also often host dance parties at Jungle Bar in Anza. Free entry, no alcohol, just a chance to groove.

Check out their Instagram @afrolatindances for details.

Jannah is the go-to dance teacher in Tamraght for the girls. She runs regular dance hall and contemporary classes at STUDiiO HY, intending to bring together local Moroccan women and foreign girlies to tap into the collective feminine groove. Classes are 150dh (€15), but she offers discounts for multi-class packages.

Breathwork & Sound Healing

Hurley Surf Club down by Devil’s Rock offers guided breathwork and somatic movement workshops every Monday morning. They have a weekly calendar of events that also includes ecstatic dance and cacao ceremonies.

See their Instagram @hurleysurfclubtamraght for all details and bookings.

Quite possibly the most tranquil wellness space in Tamraght/Aourir, Kalananda Yoga Studio also hosts the occasional breathwork sessions. I’ve had the pleasure of attending one in their beautiful yoga shala and highly recommend.

See @kalanandayogastudio on Instagram for upcoming events.

Glenna is one of Tamraght’s resident freelance yoga instructors. She often bounces between Ocean Tribe and Kalananda Yoga Studios, as well as a few surf camps. She specialises in slow flows and yin yoga, incorporating sound healing in her sessions. Glenna also hosts the occasional ecstatic dance class.
