Aftas Beach House: Best Accommodation in Mirleft

Last Updated on 24th July 2025 by Jessie

Searching for the best place to stay in Mirleft? Aftas Beach House combines surf-town charm, oceanfront views, and relaxed, affordable accommodation.

I am on the fence about sharing this place with the world, but if there’s one thing Moroccan people have taught me, it’s generosity. So let me present to you, Aftas Beach House: the dreamiest accommodation in Mirleft.

I recently booked a week at Aftas Beach House in Mirleft, and when I arrived, I felt like the accommodation gods were looking down on me with a smug little grin. The guest house is one of five buildings situated right down in the cove of Aftas Beach, so your days and nights are serenaded by the soundtrack of crashing waves. As I said, dreamy.

Mirleft is my favourite of the surf villages along Morocco’s coastline. Whilst the town is bigger than Taghazout, Tamraght or Imsouane, it is far calmer and quieter than its counterparts. The beaches are rugged and wild, the surf is great, and it has more of an authentic, local community feel.

I suppose that sums up the appeal of Aftas Beach House for me. It’s tranquil, barebones, and in step with nature. Retaining all the charm of the beach shanties from Morocco’s bygone surf hippie era. I must add that I have no affiliation with Aftas Beach House. I just genuinely love the place. Plus, the staff are legends, so it feels right to show them some support. So let me sing all my praise for my favourite accommodation in Mirleft.

  1. First and foremost, get travel insurance with SafetyWing. They’re super affordable and one of the few companies that let you buy insurance mid-trip.
  2. Book the dreamiest Moroccan abode on Booking.com. They’re my go-to for accomodation because you can save loooaads with their loyalty discounts.
  3. Or if you’re after the one-stop-shop, BookSurfCamps is the best place to find surf camp packages in Morocco.
  4. Find the best local tours with GetYourGuide. It’s the easiest way to visit places like Paradise Valley or Timlalin Dunes.
  5. Make sure you’re connected as soon as you get off the plane with Airalo’s Moroccan eSIM.
  6. Set up a Wise travel card to save on international transaction fees.
  7. And if you’re working online (or want to watch Netflix in your downtime) I highly recommend getting set up with a SurfShark VPN.

And you’re sorted.

Why Aftas Beach House is the Best Place to Stay in Mirleft

Best Location in Mirleft

The main attraction of Aftas Beach House is undoubtedly the location. There are only a handful of accommodation options in Mirleft that allow you to stay directly on the beach. Several hotels and surf houses perch up on the clifftops, providing panoramic ocean views. But staying down at Aftas Beach, with the water at your doorstep, and the cove creating an amphitheatre around you, has an entirely different feel to it.

From my budget single room, I could open the door in the morning, lie back in bed and watch the silkiest little waves roll in under the pink dawn sky. The line between waking life and dreaming got pretty blurry at that point.

The beach house has three levels, each with an outdoor terrace facing the water. So you can always find a quiet spot to sit back and watch the waves. The evenings are particularly special. Many locals make the pilgrimage down to Aftas Beach at sunset, watching from the cliffs above, or wrangling the gang down for a game of soccer on the beach.

Sitting up on the rooftop watching the sunset over the horizon, with all the joy of beach shenanigans going on below, I felt like some sort of beach royalty. Aftas Beach’s self-appointed queen smiling down with satisfaction at this slice of paradise. Ignoring the moral bankruptcy of the monarchy for one brief colonisation delusion.

Proper Surf Shack Atmosphere

Aftas Beach House is not fancy. If you want a luxe 4-bedroom villa with a pool, there are plenty of those in Mirleft. Trust me, I’ve done enough moseying around the swanky neighbourhoods to figure out what they’ve got hiding behind their thick stone walls.

Aftas Beach House is super basic. I rented a tiny room with nothing but a single bed and a small side table, with barely enough room to swing one of the one-eyed cats living downstairs. On the top floor, I shared the bathroom with two other rooms – only one of which was actually occupied – so not a lot of sharing.

The bathroom is your two-in-one, squat toilet and shower situation. Rudimentary, but appropriate for a beachfront guest house, in a remote part of the village, in an arid country with very little rainfall.

There’s a restaurant below where sun-dazed travellers pop in to lounge with a pot of mint tea or an omelette. They usually serve tagines and other dishes there, but I think they run a limited menu in winter when there are far less tourists. Expect a sandy feet, laidback, no-stress beach holiday atmosphere.

Cheapest Accommodation in Mirleft

I might have buried the lead here, but Aftas Beach House is also one of the cheapest places to stay in Mirleft. When searching for accommodation, I tend to look up the location on Booking.com, sort the results from cheapest to most expensive and take a gamble at one of the first listings. Occasionally, the results can be pretty dismal, but with Aftas Beach House, it was high risk, high reward.

I paid €14 per night for a single room to myself. It’s pretty rare when travelling solo on a budget that a private room comes in as cheaper than a bed in a dorm. So, as you can imagine, waking up in a quiet room with views of the surf, I felt well and truly like a pig in shit.

As with most accommodation in Mirleft, I suspect the prices increase during the summer months. But if you’re visiting Morocco for a surf trip, or as a reprieve from winter in Europe, it’s a win-win.

Additional Perks of Aftas Beach House

Surf at Your Doorstep

As a surfer staying at Aftas Beach House, you’ve got free rein of the waves in your front yard. Some rooms have forward-facing windows, which means a first-light swell check has never been easier. If you’re a surfer booking accommodation in Mirleft, it’s a no-brainer.

Aftas Beach sits in a bay with rocky outcrops on either side. So you’ve access to both a left and a right point break. And on smaller swells, the central beach break is perfect for beginners. There’s something for everyone.

The points work best on high tides. Moroccans aren’t early risers, so if there’s dreamy dawn conditions, you’ll usually have the waves all to yourself. Aftas also tends to be a little less popular with surf schools.

Super Friendly Staff

Aftas Beach House is run by Hassan and another young Moroccan man. Both were so welcoming and hospitable, asking me multiple times a day, every day if everything was okay, and if I needed anything.

They were so receptive to any request. I left Aftas Beach House to spend a week elsewhere and asked if I could leave a bag with them while I was gone. Having got a little too jazzed in the second-hand clothing tents at Sidi Ifni Souk. Hassan was so eager to help. I’ve never heard the phrase, ‘It’s no problem’, come out of one person’s mouth so many times.

Nearby Restaurants

If you were feeling particularly reclusive, you could spend your whole holiday in Mirleft down at Aftas Beach. There are a few restaurants neighbouring Aftas Beach House. With a little imagination, you could picture the whole place as your own private all-inclusive beach resort.

As with the restaurant below Aftas Beach House, I think most of them offer a smaller menu in winter. However, Cafe Soleil d’Or at the north end of the beach offers a Moroccan breakfast with the lot. Or you could just perch up on one of the tables by the rocks and have a mint tea with primo view of the surf.

Tips for Booking Aftas Beach House

How to Book Your Stay

As with all of the accommodation in Mirleft, my favourite platform for making reservations is Booking.com. It doesn’t take many bookings to climb up the ladder of their loyalty program. So if you’re doing a full tour of the surf villages in Morocco, you’ll be rewarded with discounts fairly early on.

In winter, accommodation in Mirleft tends to be pretty vacant so it’s not hard to find something. But still, if you’ve got your heart set on Aftas Beach House, it’s worth booking in advance.

Best Time to Visit Mirleft

In Morocco, summer is peak season for domestic travel. The beach towns fill up with local families flocking to the coast for their beach vacations. Aftas is probably not likely to have the same tranquil atmosphere I described above in summer.

Winter is the best time for surfing in Morocco, as the Atlantic brings down powerful swells from the north. Equally, winter is quieter and the weather is more temperate, with cooler evenings. Though still reaching a friendly 30°C some days.

How to Get to Mirleft

If you’re heading straight to Mirleft, the easiest way to get there is to fly into Agadir airport, hire a car and drive down the coast. If you’re not keen on driving, you can catch a bus or taxi from Agadir.

I have explained all your options for getting to Mirleft in this post.
