Last Updated on 25th January 2026 by Jessie

Looking to rent a board in Tamraght? This guide covers every local surfboard shop – what they offer, price ranges, and how to choose the right gear for your level.

Tamraght and the wider Taghazout Bay region are a one-stop shop for surfing-related adventures. There are loads of epic breaks catering to surfers of all capacities within a 10km radius of the village. As a beginner surfer, it’s kind of a dream destination to learn the foundations. Tamraght is riddled with affordable surf camps, drop-in surf schools, and rental stores with all the surf paraphernalia you could need.

I will note that the majority of surfboard hire stores cater to beginner and intermediate surfers, with a big emphasis on foamies. So if you’re an experienced surfer with your own gear, I’d recommend bringing it. However, if you’re hesitant to trust RyanAir with your board, or you’re only spending a few days in the region, you can still find something decent to take for a spin.

To save you sifting through all the scat Google listings, I have done the hard yards for you to bring forth this comprehensive list of all the best wetsuit and surfboard rentals in Tamraght. Enjoy.

  1. First and foremost, get travel insurance with SafetyWing. They’re super affordable and one of the few companies that let you buy insurance mid-trip.
  2. Book the dreamiest Moroccan abode on Booking.com. They’re my go-to for accomodation because you can save loooaads with their loyalty discounts.
  3. Or if you’re after the one-stop-shop, BookSurfCamps is the best place to find surf camp packages in Morocco.
  4. Find the best local tours with GetYourGuide. It’s the easiest way to visit places like Paradise Valley or Timlalin Dunes.
  5. Make sure you’re connected as soon as you get off the plane with Airalo’s Moroccan eSIM.
  6. Set up a Wise travel card to save on international transaction fees.
  7. And if you’re working online (or want to watch Netflix in your downtime) I highly recommend getting set up with a SurfShark VPN.

And you’re sorted.

Surfboard & Wetsuit Rental Stores by Area

To make things easier, I’ve grouped Tamraght’s surf rental shops by location – because when you’re lugging a big foamie around, proximity matters. If you’ve got your own car, you can rent a board from one of the stores in the main village. But my bipedal friends might prefer to grab one down on the beach

📍 Devil’s Rock

This beach is the main surf break in Tamraght, and there’s a little cluster of rental shops just steps from the sand.

  • Surf Safir – ⭐️ BEST LOCAL SURF LEGEND
Super low-key local guy with a small shack just above the beach. He was one of the first surfers in Tamraght, so he knows his stuff. 70dhs to rent a board, and he sleeps down there, so it’s a good option if you want to get in early for a dawnie. Great surf instructor too!
  • Devil’s Rock Surf Shop
Right near the beach entrance, this spot has basic rentals and a super convenient location. Good for a quick grab-and-go before a surf. Nice little patio where you can sit and chill with the owners post-surf.
  • Imouran Surf Association – ⭐️ PERSONAL FAVOURITE
The owner, Abdullah, is an absolute legend. Super genuine, honest guy who runs the local surf association and teaches the local groms how to surf. Good quality foamies at an affordable price. Well worth supporting!
  • K14 Surf Maroc Academy
Offshoot of the Surf Maroc family. For their large selection of performance boards, quality surf gear, and to book lessons, it’s best to visit the main store in Taghazout. However, they also have a few boards for rent at this mini hub above Devil’s Rock.

📍 Crocos

A quieter break between Devil’s Rock and Banana Point, with one reliable rental option.

  • Croco Surf Club
Foamies, wetsuits, and laid-back vibes. They also offer surf lessons and guiding if you’re looking to build confidence in the water. Crocos is a long beach with a few breaks, so it’s a good, spacious option for beginners.

📍 Tamraght Village

If you’re staying in the heart of the village, you’ll find a solid selection of small shops tucked along the laneways and main roads.

  • Smiley Surf Shop
Friendly little surf shop selling clothes, wax, leashes, and assorted Moroccan souvenirs. They have both soft tops and short boards for rent, apparently in quite good nick. 120dhs to hire a shortboard for the day.

  • Loco Surf Maroc
Good value rentals and super chill service. One of the better ranges of shortboards and bodyboards.

  • Atlas Surf Shop – ⭐️ QUALITY GEAR
Located down on the main street. A no-frills local rental option with budget-friendly prices and a few good shortboards to choose from. Super hospitable, you can book boards in advance or swap them out for a better fit.

  • Marocknroll Surf Shop
A little more polished than some village shops. Good spot for buying boardies or other clothing. Offers gear for both beginners and intermediates, plus discounts on multi-day hires.

  • Best Wave Surf Shop
One of the better-stocked options in the village, with both foamies and hardboards. They also sell wax, leashes, and other accessories. Plus skateboards and surfskates.

  • Quiver Point – ⭐️ BEST LONGBOARD RENTALS
A favourite for more experienced surfers. They stock a few longboards made by world-renowned shapers, as well as classic and alternative surfboards. If you’re after quality and style, Quiver Point is your go-to.

📍 Main Road

Not quite in the village core, but easily reached if you’re driving or staying nearby.

  • Moors Surfboards
Good spot to purchase a board, but they also offer a few rentals. Mostly aimed at intermediate surfers looking to rent something a bit more responsive.

🛠️ Tarik Surfboards (Board Shaper & Repairs)

  • Tarik doesn’t do rentals, but he’s the go-to guy for custom boards or ding repair. If you’ve snapped a fin or want to invest in something shaped locally, he’s well worth visiting. His shop is just off the main road – ask around if you can’t find it easily.

Tips for Renting a Surfboard in Tamraght

1. Check the Board Before You Rent

Most rental shops will do a quick look-over when you return the board, so do the same before you walk out. Look for any existing cracks, soft spots, or pressure dings. All the fellas I’ve rented boards from in Tamraght have been honest, but good practice to avoid getting stung.

2. Ask About Leash, Wax, and Wetsuit Inclusions

Some shops bundle in the extras, others charge a bit more. Most places will throw in a leash and wax for free, but wetsuits might cost an extra 30–50dh (€3-5) per day.

3. Negotiate for Multi-Day Rentals

Staying a few days or weeks? Many shops will give you a discount if you’re renting for more than two or three days. It’s worth asking.

4. Match Your Board to the Conditions

Tamraght gets a mix of mellow and punchy waves depending on the swell. If it’s small, go bigger and floatier (think foamie or mini-mal). If a proper swell is filling in, it might be worth hunting down a hardboard or shortboard from a place like Quiver Point or Moors Surfboards.

5. Don’t Be too proud – Ask for Local Advice

Most surf shop owners are surfers themselves and have been surfing these breaks for decades. They’ve seen countless kooks overestimate their capacity and get rolled. There’s no better people to give advice on the best breaks/conditions/boards for your ability.

Surf Camps in Tamraght

If you’re after the whole kit and caboodle, Tamraght has loads of surf camps with packages that include lessons, guiding, and hire of surf gear.

Final Thoughts: Renting Surfboards in Tamraght

Tamraght is one of the easiest places along Morocco’s surf coast to rent a board and get in the water – especially if you’re just starting out. There’s a solid mix of foamie-friendly rental shops, laid-back instructors, and consistent beginner waves. That said, more experienced surfers will want to dig a little deeper to find quality hardboards (or better yet, bring their own).

If you’re heading this way, don’t forget to check out my full Tamraght Travel Guide for info on where to stay, eat, and chill between surfs. And if you haven’t yet locked into a quality travel insurer, I highly recommend checking out SafetyWing. They’re one of the few companies that allow you to sign up mid-trip.

Wherever you end up renting from, I hope this guide helped narrow things down. And if I’ve missed any surf shops, please feel free to let me know!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to rent a surfboard in Morocco?

Most surf shops in Morocco charge between 80–100dh (€8-10) per day for a soft-top board. Hardboards can be a bit more, usually around 100–150dh (€10-15). Wetsuit rentals are typically 30–50dh (€3-5) per day. Discounts are often available for multi-day or weekly rentals, so don’t be shy to ask.

Do rental stores offer wetsuits too?

Yes – nearly all surf shops in Tamraght also rent wetsuits. Just check whether it’s included in the rental price or charged separately. If you’re surfing in winter (November–March), you’ll definitely want one.

Are there surfboard rentals for experienced surfers?

Yes, but they’re a bit less common. Most shops focus on beginner gear (think soft-tops and mini-mals), but a few shops like Quiver Point, Moors Surfboards, or Marocknroll stock shortboards or higher-performance boards. If you’re picky about your setup, it’s worth messaging ahead or bringing your own.

Where can I get a surfboard repaired in Tamraght?

Tarik Surfboards, located just off the main road, is the go-to for dings, cracks, and custom shaping. He’s well-known in the local surf scene and does reliable, affordable repairs. Ask around if you have trouble finding his workshop—it’s worth the effort.
